چکیده

Pentazocine 30 mg and pethidine 30 mg were given intravenously to two groups of patients receiving general anaesthesia with nitrous oxide, oxygen and halothane. The injections were repeated after 10 minutes. The effects on cardiac output, arterial blood pressure, heart rate and central venous pressure were measured. Both drugs caused a transient fall (approximately 20 per cent) in cardiac output and a sustained rise in central venous pressure.

Effects of nitrous oxide on respiration during halothane anaesthesia in the dog.

The pattern of ventilation was studied in eight greyhounds anaesthetized with halothane in 50% oxygen with nitrogen and in eight with the same concentration of halothane in 50% oxygen with nitrous oxide. There was a significant reduction in both inspiratory and expiratory times in the animals breathing nitrous oxide and an increase in the negative pressures developed in the obstructed airway du...

Heart rate changes in halothane anaesthesia: effect of varying doses of atropine and neostigmine.

Heart rate changes during halothane-tubocurarine anaesthesia (Group I, 60 patients), and pethidine-tubocurarine (Group II, 20 patients) have been studied. Significant changes were noted immediately after thiopentone induction, after intubation and after atropine 1.2 mg, 1.8 mg, or 3.0 mg. It was found that atropine 1.8 mg was as effective as atropine 3.0 mg in increasing heart rate, Atropine ca...

Comparison of althesin and thiopentone in anaesthesia for paediatric out-patient otology.

Althesin (0.055 ml/kg) as an anaesthetic induction agent was compared with thiopentone (4 mg/kg) in 87 children undergoing minor ear surgery as out-patients. The children were premedicated with pethidine and atropine and anaesthesia was maintained with nitrous oxide in oxygen and halothane. Both drugs were associated with similar reductions in heart rate and similar increases in respiratory rat...

Blood pressure and cerebrospinal fluid pressure studies during lumbar air encephalography.

Blood pressure and cerebrospinal fluid pressure changes were studied during lumbar air encephalography under general anaesthesia. Two anaesthetic techniques were used. In one group spontaneous respiration with nitrous oxide, oxygen and halothane was used and in the other controlled ventilation with nitrous oxide and oxygen was maintained. Larger falls in blood pressure, on sitting up, were seen...

Myocardial blood flow and oxygen consumption during halothane-nitrous oxide anaesthesia for coronary revascularization.

The effects of halothane on myocardial blood flow and myocardial oxygen balance were studied in seven male patients with stable angina and normal left ventricular function. Patients were receiving maintenance doses of beta-receptor antagonists and underwent coronary artery bypass surgery. Anaesthesia consisted of halothane and 50% nitrous oxide in oxygen. Halothane decreased myocardial blood fl...
